Yoni 101: Yoni steaming basics...The Who, What, and Why of Yoni Steams

When ever I talk about Yoni steaming there are always a few women who give me the side eye as if I have lost my mind.  After I explain the history, the process, and my own testimony these same women normally want to experience a Yoni steam for themselves.   We have been taught to basically ignore our female organs until something goes wrong, and then we are given the two main options of pills or surgery.  Yoni steaming is a healing and preventative tool that women can use to take charge of their own health and wellness! What is Yoni Steaming? Yoni steaming, also known as vaginal steaming or V-steaming is a holistic health treatment practiced by women across many cultures for centuries.  Yoni steaming involves a woman sitting or squatting over a vessel filled with therapeutic herbs and boiling water.

Why are Yoni Steams good for women? Yoni is an amazing self care practice that has extraordinary benefits and healing properties.  Some of the benefits of yoni steaming include but are not limited to: easing symptoms of and restoring balance to the menstrual cycle, relief for bloating and cramps, lighter and shorter menstrual cycles.  Yoni steams can help women to have a smoother transition into menopause by releasing stress, detoxing and alleviating stagnation, combating vaginal dryness and stimulating libido.  Yoni steams offer a natural way for women to tighten the vagina, increase circulation to the pelvis, and boost fertility.  Many of my clients also use Yoni Steams to treat UTI's, to heal after childbirth, surgery, or other pelvic trauma; to ease symptoms of endometriosis, to shrink cysts and tumors, and maintain overall vaginal health.

Who should Yoni steam? Yoni steaming is a beautiful and empowering way for women to connect with the powerful energy of the womb, relieve anxiety, and build a greater body awareness, but Yoni steaming is not for everyone. Women with any sort of infection or such as a cervical, ovarian, or uterine infection should avoid steaming until they have relieved their symptoms. Women who are pregnant, or have the possibility of being pregnant should never do a Yoni steam due to the ability of some herbs to effect hormones and cause uterine contractions, potentially endangering the life of mother and child. This is also why women who have an Intrauterine Device (IUD) should never do a vaginal steam. Women who are experiencing vaginal bleeding, for whatever reason, and women who have open wounds or blisters should not steam until they no longer have symptoms.
